Tiny shoes on tiny feet
Stumbling moving forward,
Arms raised high the air to beat
Smiles her sweet reward.
Mother walking closely by
Father beckoning on,
Sister urging her to try
Thoughts of homework gone.
Rosie reaching out her arm
Rocks on trembling limb,
Face now showing some alarm
Throws a glance at him.
Father inches closer then
Reaches toward his girl
Rosie shuffles forward again
Shakes a wayward curl.
Rosie tripping, starts to fall,
Tears begin to glisten
Mother gives a startled call
Sister stops to listen?
Father plucks her from the fall
Strokes the tear stained miss,
Mother reaching, standing tall
Takes her with a kiss.
Could it be that if we trip?
When with life’s cares we bend
There’ll be someone’s hand to grip
An ever watchful friend

Very sweet. It is nice seeing you try your wings in the writing, Ian.

I especially enjoyed the last stanza. It is the sort of thing that one embroiders into a piece to be framed and hung on the wall; or perhaps, scripts into a thank-you note to a dear friend who did just that.

What a nice thing to say. I guess that should be the goal of all of us shouldn’t it?

As Jane mentioned, this is lovely – and quite visual.
The last verse adds a nice theme in the form of a question.

Yes the poem leads us to think about that concluding statement doesn’t it? How many friends do we have who’d come to our aid in time of need? Good question.

It’s one of my oldest poems Jane. I discovered it in my files quite recently.
