The Friend

Anxious thoughts flood the mind

When present circumstances change

Constant seeking how to find

New solutions to arrange.

When thinking danger is at hand

Seeking other ways to deal

Thoughts will beckon like the wind

Most seemingly unreal.

Times like these we need a friend

To help us see the way ahead

Urge us to a better end

And save us from ill-fated dread.

Friends like that are rare indeed

A treasure to be firmly kept

Close to heart consistent need,

We owe them an eternal debt.

And there is One whose lofty view

Will rescue from all foolish act

Apart from Him there’s only few

With wisdom empathy and tact.

  1. It is a good poem Ian. However, I’d love to see the stanzas emphasized by the format. This would bring out the strength of your AB rhyming scheme. See below

Word Press is hard to manipulate but I’ve found that if you hit “backspace” and then “control enter” the spacing changes to single rather than double.

    1. I really appreciate your comments. Unfortunately I’m not well trained in the arts so do fly by the seat of my pants sometimes. Frankly I don’t like the “improvements” WordPress has made as writing is only a hobby and I was not trained in the fine points of publishing and this site seems to appeal to those who are trained to achieve mass circulation to sell a product. I hope I can remember you tip on single spacing as I hate what they did to that poem with double spacing too. 🙂
